FIRE RISK ASSESSMENTS

Under The regulatory reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, a Fire Risk Assessment is a legal requirement.

If you are responsible for a building, for example an employer, owner or occupier of premises that aren’t a ‘single private dwelling’ (a private home), you need to make sure a suitably competent person completes a Fire Risk Assessment.

A Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) is an important process to identify fire hazards and assess the risk of those hazards to cause harm to people in the building. The FRA also identifies measures to prevent or mitigate fire risks and makes any relevant improvements in the form of a prioritised Action Plan.

All commercial premises now require a fire risk assessment regardless of the number of employees.

In addition, the communal areas of blocks of flats also require to have a fire risk assessment carried out. This must also include assessments of the entrance doors to all flats.
